Design driven by strategy
In the rollout of electric mobility, scale changes everything. Through its Smart Mobility initiative, Iberdrola operates one of the largest charging networks in Spain, with the ambitious goal of surpassing 200,000 installed charging points by 2030.
When we began collaborating on the design of this infrastructure, it was immediately clear that the challenge wasn’t about designing a standalone charger, but about solving a highly complex ecosystem.
In real-world conditions, the scenarios are endless: charging points for single vehicles or large fleets; parking layouts arranged inline, perpendicular or parallel; front or side connection requirements, and many more.
Creating a system capable of absorbing all that spatial and operational complexity is a challenge on an entirely different scale.
Our response was the development of a fully modular design system. We approached the project by integrating industrial efficiency with a carefully refined formal language. The result is a timeless, durable design capable of integrating naturally into the urban environment — fully aware that this is infrastructure destined to coexist within our streets for many years to come.
Every design decision balanced this aesthetic vision with manufacturing processes, cost viability, ease of on-site installation and long-term maintenance efficiency. All while ensuring that, regardless of the final configuration, the system consistently communicates Iberdrola’s brand identity and strategic positioning.
