Biolan
Perception, Reality and Double-Digit Growth
We often encounter a paradox within the industrial landscape: companies with extraordinary engineering capabilities whose market perception fails to reflect their technical excellence. Ten years ago, when we began collaborating with Biolan, this was precisely the challenge we faced.
Biolan was already a benchmark in biosensor technology for food safety.
Their engineering was impeccable, delivering precise, rapid diagnostics without the use of toxic reagents. Yet the physical device where all that analysis took place didn’t fully convey the level of innovation behind it.
On a laboratory bench, alongside equipment from major global brands, technology alone is not enough; the product itself must instantly communicate the same confidence and credibility as the data it delivers.
The design of the BIO3000 was the result of an in-depth analysis. We carefully studied its critical usage environment, the ergonomic needs of laboratory analysts, and the strategic positioning the brand aspired to achieve.
We approached the project by balancing a refined formal language with industrial constraints and requirements. The result was a timeless, intuitive and rigorous design, conceived to integrate naturally within the ecosystem of a modern laboratory. Every decision was made to ensure the device visually conveyed the millimetric precision of the technology operating within it.
As their CEO, Asier Albizu, puts it: “Design fulfilled its purpose. It allowed us to radically transform our image and even position both our product and our brand on an entirely different level.”
When industrial design is genuinely embedded within corporate strategy, it has a direct impact on business performance. Today, Biolan operates globally through 11 international offices and continues to sustain steady growth. The BIO3000 was our first challenge together, and we’re proud to see that it remains a key asset in the company’s competitiveness.
