Silennis
Sailing in silence
Sailing with zero emissions. Nothing but the sound of the wake cutting through the water. Today, electric mobility feels like the obvious path forward. But when we began working on Silennis, proposing a fully electric leisure boat meant venturing into uncharted waters.
“If you want to predict the future, design it,” said Bill Moggridge. That idea became our guiding principle throughout the project.
The challenge wasn’t simply about designing an attractive hull or integrating a silent propulsion system. We were facing the task of creating an entirely new category within the marine industry. That’s why we took on the project as a whole: developing the physical product while also shaping its visual identity, positioning and overall brand strategy.
We knew that a technology this new wouldn’t survive in the market unless users could intuitively understand it. The boat needed to feel minimal and easy to operate for any type of user, without steep learning curves or unnecessary complexity. Alongside the product design, we developed the commercial tools needed to educate an audience that was still unfamiliar with this new way of navigating. In many ways, Silennis became an exercise in pedagogy through design.
The project received both a Red Dot Design Award and a Delta Design Award. While these recognitions validate the rigour of the execution, what truly matters to us is having confirmed that a strategic vision defined years ago still aligns today with the way we understand leisure in and around nature.
What mattered most was shaping technology in a way that allowed it to find its place in the real market.
